Worship at First Church

Our Sunday Morning Experience Will Surprise You

At First Congregational Church of Los Angeles, Sunday morning worship is a richly textured, transformative hour. We bring together the arts—music, literature, poetry—as well as science, reason and religious texts, in a life-affirming way, providing a unique opportunity to engage with others in a joyful experience that speaks to the heart, mind and spirit.

A Place to Belong, Where You Matter

First Congregational Church of Los Angeles welcomes you, wherever you are on your spiritual and religious journey. At First Church, you become a vital part of a diverse, multigenerational community. People of all ages—children and their families, young professionals, seniors and everyone in between—come together in an authentic and relevant experience of Christianity. Our teachings are open and accessible to everyone. In everything we do, we celebrate compassion, diversity and inclusivity, providing a place to belong for people of all backgrounds, cultures, races, gender identities and walks of life.

The Church of Our City

As the oldest Protestant Church in Los Angeles, First Congregational Church of Los Angeles celebrated its 150th Anniversary in 2017.  Historically one of the most important churches in the region, First Church is considered a local treasure for both its outstanding gothic architecture and spectacular organ—the largest church pipe organ in the world.  Today, our Church reflects the new and changing face of Los Angeles, offering programs and events that recognize the many diverse voices in our city—including the interfaith community—and inviting earnest and intelligent discourse on the critical issues facing Los Angeles, our country and the world.

A New Voice of Progressive Christianity

At First Congregational Church of Los Angeles, we live in the deeply held values of inclusiveness, diversity, compassion and generosity with a commitment to the human family.  These values are the cornerstone of the Christian tradition—which we interpret and redefine through a contemporary lens. As the leading progressive church in the city, we believe in a gospel based on the truth that we are all created in the image of God. This truth is manifest in our love of God and our love for our neighbors.
