Join us this fall for Dr. Colglazier’s theological exploration into the emotional life of Jesus. The series will begin on October 5 with the sermon “The Lonely Jesus” focusing on the profound loneliness Jesus must have felt during his Last Supper — being with his disciples, yet standing alone on the verge of betrayal and death. In a series of six sermons, Dr. Colglazier will delve into the emotions of anger, grief, compassion and doubt, ending on November 16 with “The Happy Jesus,” asking the question, why is happiness so elusive for so many of us? We hope you will join us for this introspective and reflective sermon series.
Please join us in viewing Silver Linings Playbook on October 12 at 12:30pm.
Synopsis: After a stint in a mental institution, former teacher Pat Solitano moves back in with his parents and tries to reconcile with his ex-wife. Things get more challenging when Pat meets Tiffany, a mysterious girl with problems of her own.
Silver Linings Playbook walks a tricky thematic tightrope, but David O. Russell's sensitive direction and some sharp work from a talented cast gives it true balance.
Church member Scott Carter’s play, Discord, is a conversation between Jefferson, Dickens and Tolstoy about each man’s writings on scripture. This provocative and funny play provides insights into the spiritual lives of these three men as they debate about theology, life, art and values. First Church has reserved 15 tickets for congregants to purchase for the October 26 performance at 2 pm. Tickets are $30. Please RSVP by September 22 to Tim Gonzales at 213.355.5228 or firstname.lastname@example.org.
