We offer a wide range of activities at First Congregational Church of Los Angeles. Whether you are a full member, or a first-time visitor, we invite you to participate in the life of our community.
Join us this fall for Dr. Colglazier’s theological exploration into the emotional life of Jesus. The series will begin on October 5 with the sermon “The Lonely Jesus” focusing on the profound loneliness Jesus must have felt during his Last Supper — being with his disciples, yet standing alone on the verge of betrayal and death. In a series of six sermons, Dr. Colglazier will delve into the emotions of anger, grief, compassion and doubt, ending on November 16 with “The Happy Jesus,” asking the question, why is happiness so elusive for so many of us? We hope you will join us for this introspective and reflective sermon series.
The second in Dr. Colglazier's "Conversations of Faith" series with guest Scott Carter.
Church member Scott Carter’s play, Discord, is a conversation between Jefferson, Dickens and Tolstoy about each man’s writings on scripture. This provocative and funny play provides insights into the spiritual lives of these three men as they debate about theology, life, art and values. First Church has reserved 15 tickets for congregants to purchase for the November 2 performance at 2 pm. Tickets are $30. Please RSVP by September 22 to Tim Gonzales at 213.355.5228 or firstname.lastname@example.org.
Music can inspire us to be the change we wish to see. It unites us through common cause, uplifts us in times of need, and is our call to action. Music is as much personal as it is universal. Join us as we shine a spotlight on human rights, the plight of children in need and the fight against cancer. This concert is not only a reflection of the struggles we face in the world, it is also a realization of the beauty and strength we find as we strive to create a better world.
A new commission by David O will be featured, sponsored by Vox alumna Donna Burroughs. And throughout the concert, Kaleeka Bond from Ryman Arts will be creating an original visual art piece, inspired by the voices of Vox and the messages of our music making.
You won’t want to miss this wonderful evening of music and art. Tickets are available online now!
Tickets: Pre-sale tickets are $30 and $35. All tickets will be $40 at the door. Doors open at 7:30 pm.
