We offer a wide range of activities at First Congregational Church of Los Angeles. Whether you are a full member, or a first-time visitor, we invite you to participate in the life of our community.
This Summer we are once again conducting our Summer One Read. Grapes of Wrath by John Steinbeck is an iconic American novel that follows the Joad family as they flee the Dust Bowl of Depression-era Oklahoma, making the trek across the southwestern US in search of the promise of a better life in California. First published in 1939, this story explores the themes of family, gender, religion, poverty vs. wealth, the plight of migrant workers, and the multiplying effects of selfishness and altruism.
Each Sunday in August, Dr. Colglazier will use this story as a lens through which he will focus his sermons. Once again, we will also have time to discuss the story in-depth: a Book Talk on August 10 and a Film Forum on August 24. Everyone is invited to participate in this all-church event.
